Delivered by highly respected professionals, using industry standard equipment, this four year honours degree is practically based, designed specifically to prepare you for the workplace and to advance your skills to the highest level. The course is over 60% practical and has been designed to allow students to specialise in areas such as TV Studio Production, Documentary Film Production and Drama Production for Film and Television. It also includes an industry work placement in Year 4. 86% of our students are in work or further study after graduating.

Course description

The aim of this course is to produce Film & Television Production professionals with the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to work within the Film and Television industry in Ireland and abroad. This programme produces high-functioning generalists in the screen media industries and remains to the forefront of technology-driven trends within the film and television industries.

This 4-year honours degree includes a work placement and allows students to specialise in areas such as TV Studio Production, Documentary Film Production and Drama Production for Film and Television. Practical modules are complemented by a range of theory-driven modules - including Film Studies, Writing for Film and TV and Media Studies.; Students in the 3rd and 4th year of the course also have the opportunity to compete for the Annual John Moore Film Award.

A Dundalk native, Director John Moore began his relationship with DkIT in 2011, when Blaine Rennicks, a fourth year film student won an internal competition for an internship on the set of A Good Day to Die Hard in Budapest. Access to film and television industry professionals is a core feature of the course & lecturers continually invite Industry Professionals to deliver masterclasses and guest lectures and evaluate project pitches from students.

Graduates of this course are recognised as being uniquely situated to work in the film and television industries in Ireland and abroad and have found work in companies such as Big Mountain Productions, One Productions, Vision Independent Productions, Click Media, Egg Post-Production, Setanta Sports and Tailored Films.

Based in the state of the art Carroll’s building on the DKIT Campus, students undertaking this course have a unique opportunity to create ambitious and outstanding work. Previous work by students has been screened at a wide variety of Film festivals both nationally and internationally.
