About Bachelor Of Science (honours) In Pharmaceutical Technology in University of Malta

The programme is intended to provide:

a) An understanding of underlying scientific basis of current and future operations and processes involved in the development, manufacture and handling of medicines and medical devices

b) Training in an approach to trouble-shoot product and process technologies that are used in the development and use of medicines

c) Skills in dispensing and compounding of medicines

The graduates from this programme are trained and educated to work in a variety of areas related to medicines including the pharmaceutical industry, pharmaceutical and healthcare organisations. The graduates will be able to:

1. understand the standards required in handling medications 

2. apply chemical principles in the manufacture of medications

3. apply communication skills required in the pharmaceutical industry and in health service provision institutions


Skills developed:

1. accurate processing of instructions and procedures

2. ability to completely follow written instructions and Standard Operating Procedures

3. ability to follow rules, regulations and standards according to local, European and international requirements

3. ability to use computer systems and to operate IT-driven processes

4. ability to deal with details and ensure safety

5. communication skills: active listening, speaking skills

6. mathematical skills

7. understanding and application of medical and pharmaceutical terminology

8. correct handling, storage and stock maintenance of medicines

 

 

To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants shall:

either (a) satisfy the general requirements for admission, namely, the Matriculation Certificate and Secondary Education Certificate passes at Grade 5 or better in Maltese, English Language and Mathematics and be in possession of a pass at Advanced Matriculation Level at grade D or better in Chemistry,

or (b) be in possession of the MCAST Diploma for Pharmacy Technicians, together with a pass at Advanced Matriculation Level at grade D or better in Chemistry, and passes at SEC Level at grade 5 or better in English Language, Mathematics and Maltese,

or (c) be registered as a pharmacy technician with the Pharmacy Council, and have 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a pharmaceutical setting, together with a pass at Advanced Matriculation Level at grade D or better in Chemistry.
