Course Details

We will give you the technical understanding of the most widely used system architectures, as well as an introduction to the wider areas of computing, such as artificial intelligence and media technology. Upon graduation, you will be able to develop robust and reusable software systems. You will share common modules with all Computing students during your first year, giving you the flexibility to specialise in your second and third years. You will reinforce your theoretical knowledge through practical work in our computer facilities.

During your first year you will share common modules with all computing students, giving you the flexibility to specialise in your second and third years. You will then specialise in Software Engineering where you will explore software systems, internet programming, artificial intelligence and object oriented software engineering. You will focus on the design of microprocessor systems as well as digital signal processing. You will also develop your design and programming skills, as well as optimization for 2D and 3D platforms.

In your second year you will complete a group project where you will be a part of a small design team working to produce an innovative and bespoke solution to a real world challenge. You will also complete an independent dissertation in your final year.

Methods of Learning

You will be taught through a variety of activities and problem solving challenges, so that you can apply your theoretical knowledge. Being able to analyse problems, implement statistical methods, research solutions and apply them in new ways are all skills that are highly valued in the computing industry, and you will be able to use them throughout your career to drive the industry forward.

Assessments

A wide range of assessment is used including essays, reports and end of year examinations.

 

Entry Requirements

A typical offer could be BCC at A-Level or DMM at BTEC. Applicants will be expected to have achieved GCSE Mathematics (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above. We welcome international applicants and applications from students with a range of non-traditional educational or professional qualifications.

Basic Admission Requirements

  1. Certified transcripts of high school/college/university
  2. One reference required
  3. Statement of Purpose depicting the interest of the applicant in the chosen course
  4. MBA applicants must also have a proof of work experience
  5. Arts and design applicant must also submit their portfolio 

The outcomes of the English proficiency tests taken by all of the international applicants. IELTS, TOEFL iBT, and Pearson PTE are acceptable tests. The minimal IELTS scores needed to get admitted are as follows:
