The UWS BSc Applied Biomedical Science has been developed in partnership with the National Health Service and the Health & Care Professions Council, providing a route for you to become a professional Biomedical Scientist, working in NHS-accredited hospital laboratories. With a career in Biomedical Science – taking in research, diagnosis, treatment and disease prevention – you will work at the forefront of modern healthcare.

Hospital laboratories play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients, with biomedical scientists carrying out tests on clinical specimens, with timely and effective analysis of results informing the effective diagnosis, monitoring, treatment and prevention of disease by medical staff.

Our course will ensure that you gain the knowledge, skills and experience to play a leading role in the modern healthcare sector.

PROFESSIONAL APPROVAL AND ACCREDITATION

The BSc (Hons) Applied Biomedical Science is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (the leading professional body for biomedical scientists, support staff and students).

The BSc (Hons) Applied Biomedical Science is also approved by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). The HCPC is the UK regulator which protects the public by maintaining a register of health and care professionals who meet our standards for their training, professional skills, behaviour and health. It regulates and protects a number of health and care professions, including biomedical scientists.

COURSE DETAILS

Biomedical scientists working in hospital labs carry out tests on clinical specimens, the result inform the effective diagnosis, monitoring, treatment and prevention of disease by medical staff. 

The BSc (Hons) Applied Biomedical Science has been developed in partnership with the National Health Service and the Health & Care Professions Council, and provides a route for you to become a professional Biomedical Scientist, working in NHS-accredited hospital laboratories. 

You will develop advanced knowledge and skills, learning scientific theory in the lecture theatre and gaining practical skills in the laboratory. 

Students have undertaken research projects through the ERASMUS+ project in Europe.
