FURTHER INFORMATION

The second year/third year if on Foundation entry provides a strong management orientation through a study of marketing issues alongside the idea of success as an operational management issue. In Events in Action, you will be required to work in conjunction with a national charity to deliver your own event within the risk and safety management guidelines. The study of international corporate hospitality and business events develops an insight into business events. Careers are considered within the framework of talent management, which helps those who are preparing for the placement year, while focusing on the needs of the industry. The placement year can be taken in a wide range of organisations and countries.

There is an opportunity to spend 48 weeks on placement in the events industry where you will gain crucial insights into the role of an events manager in a real life situation. This is optional and you may complete the degree in three years/four years if on Foundation entry if you do not wish to undertake a placement.

The final year is founded on the critical and analytic study of the events industry and the need for strategic approaches. A personal development module helps capitalise on the placement year, by providing an opportunity to reflect upon achievements and plan the next stage of a professional career. This is important even-more-so for those who have not developed practical skills through a placement. A range of options provide some flexibility and allow you to develop your interests.

We are proud of our links with Team Spirit, a leading team building and event management company which sponsors a team building event for all new students and offers a final year talk. In addition they provide work experience opportunities for our students; we have had students on year-long internships for the past five years, and other students have volunteered to work on individual events to gain work experience. They also sponsor the annual Team Spirit Prize for the best Event Management graduate.

OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates of the course are pursuing careers throughout the hospitality and events industry. Many are working for large international organisations whilst a significant number have chosen to work more locally in the UK hospitality and events industry. The transferable skills gained on the degree mean that many graduates also go on to careers as teachers, project managers and logistics managers. The continued growth of this sector will guarantee a wealth of opportunities over the coming years.
