Fanshawe College, a public institution founded in London, Ontario in 1962, was formerly known as Ontario Vocational College (OVC). The first day of classes was September 28, 1964. In 1967, the words "fane" and "shaw" or "shawe," which both refer to buildings or temples, were combined to create the name Fanshawe. Fanshawe also translates as "temple in the woods."
