About University of Calgary

The University of Calgary is a public research university with origins in the University of Alberta's Calgary campus. The name of Calgary University was changed to University of Alberta in Calgary in 1957 as a result of a pledge from the provincial government (UAC). The University of Calgary became independent of the University of Alberta in April 1966 and was founded as a distinct organisation. The University of Calgary has expanded dramatically, going from having roughly 4,000 students in 1966 to more than 33,000 in 2022. It now has 5 campuses with a combined budget of $1.3 billion.

Rankings at the University of Calgary attest to its dedication to its aim of forging a campus atmosphere that fosters community, study, and research, enhances the educational experience, and advances sustainability. The University of Calgary has been placed by the Academic Ranking of World Universities at No. 7-8 in Canada and in the 151-200 range internationally for 2021. Additionally, the University of Calgary has received rankings in the QS World University Rankings 2022 at position 10 in Canada and position 235 globally, as well as in the Times Higher Education 2022 at position 8 in Canada and position 201-250 globally.

The University of Calgary has five campuses, four of which are in the greater Calgary area and one in Doha, Qatar. 11 of the 14 faculties are located on the main campus, while the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Cumming School of Medicine are located on the Foothills campus. The Downtown campus offers a few graduate-level and executive educational programmes through the Haskayne School of Business and the School of Public Policy. The University of Calgary also maintains astrophysical observatories, a marine institute, field stations, and a high-Arctic research facility. More than 250 courses in a range of academic disciplines, including humanities, science, engineering, biology, management, the arts, and education, are available at the University of Calgary.

More than 33,000 students have been admitted to the University of Calgary, of whom more than 26,000 are doing undergraduate courses and more than 6,000 are taking graduate courses. Indian, Iranian, and Chinese students make up the majority of those who are admitted from outside. There are almost 300 Indian students at the university. At the University of Calgary, the Indian Students' Association represents Indian culture on campus. Additionally, there are student exchange programmes between the University of Calgary and IIT Bombay.

The University of Calgary provides a variety of services to make its students feel at home, including on-campus housing, eating options, sports and recreation facilities, research facilities, etc. The Olympic Oval, which was constructed for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, is also housed at the university. It has the fastest ice on Earth, according to legend.

More than 202,500 former students have graduated from the University of Calgary, and 2/3 of them still reside or work in the city. Dr. Elizabeth Cannon, who was awarded the Alberta Order of Excellence, Dr. Barry Sanders, a quantum scientist, Robert Thirsk, an astronaut, and Stephen Harper, the 22nd Prime Minister of Canada, are just a few of the famous alumni.

University of Calgary Application Process

Both graduate and undergraduate programmes at the University of Calgary use the same application procedure. Since it takes roughly six months to obtain a study permit for Canada, international applicants are recommended to submit their applications at least 10 months before the application deadline.

The steps of applying to University of Calgary are as follows: 

  • Step 1: Go through the list of courses and select the one of interest.
  • Step 2: Check the minimum eligibility criteria for the course.
  • Step 3: Apply for the desired program at the University of Calgary.
  • Step 4: Pay the non-refundable application fee.
  • Step 5: All the required documents, English Proficiency test scores must be submitted before the deadline.

After the application form has been submitted successfully, it will be examined. Selected applicants will be contacted by UCalgary officials for further action.
