De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is a public university in the city of Leicester, England.

The university was originally founded as the Leicester School of Art in 1870, and evolved through many sttages, including the Leicester Colleges of Art and Technology and Leicester Polytechnic, later on Leicester Polytechnic became De Montfort University On 26 June 1992.

De Montfort University’s campus is located in an area of Leicester. 

Location Specialities 

Leicester is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the United Kingdom. It is also Britain's first environment city. Leicester continued to grow rapidly throughout the 20th century.

Accomodation 

University offers accommodation for all international students, based on certain criteria. There are 13 halls of residence with 4,100 rooms. All halls are self-catered, giving students the full freedom to come and go at any time as they wish ,and furnished bedding pack including a duvet, pillow and bedsheets.

All accommodations are within easy walking distance to campus also very close to many attractions in Leicester many attractions.

Awards

In 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework, the UK Department of Education awarded the institution a Gold Rating, describing teaching as "consistently outstanding" and "of the highest quality found in the UK higher education sector.

The University was ranked 94th in the UK for the Guardian rankings of 2018,70th by The Complete University Guide for 2019, and, Times Higher Education (THE) ranked De Montfort University 50th in the world In 2019.

Work placements

DMU offers  one year, full-time paid work placement for the majority of our courses, including all undergraduate courses and all postgraduate Engineering and Computing courses. 

Supportive and friendly

International Student Support Team will provide students with support before, during and after their time at DMU. They also runs an international welcome week, free airport pick-ups, and a 'buddies' scheme which matches students with a current DMU student to help them settle in.

How to Reach?

  • East Midlands International Airport is less than half an hour away and Birmingham, Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted airports are all within reach.
  • High-speed rail links connect Leicester to London and many other major cities, while bus and coach services provide valuable and reliable connections across Leicester and most parts of the United Kingdom. Park-and-ride services are also available throughout the area.
  • By car Leicester is just off the M1 and close to the A1, allowing easy access to the North and South. The M69 and M6 are also close by and offer access to Birmingham, Wales and the South West.
