University of Strathclyde is a public research university located in Glasgow, Scotland. Established more than 200 years ago as the Anderson Institute, Glasgow is the second-oldest university, having been awarded its Royal Charter in 1964 as the first technology university in the United Kingdom.

Strathclyde University is renowned for its excellent teaching, research and strong ties with industry, government and business. It is Scotland's third-largest university with more than 23,000 students and staff from over 100 countries.

It is also one of the 39 old universities in the United Kingdom, comprising the distinguished second elite group of universities after Oxbridge (Oxford and  Cambridge).

Being the first university in the UK to win the Times Higher Education Awards for the second time, Strathclyde is ranked in the top ten in the UK by both The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

The University of Strathclyde single site campus is located in Glasgow, Scotland.

Location Specialities 

Strathclyde campus is situated in the middle of Glasgow, one of the largest and most diverse cities in the United Kingdom and a good base for exploring Scotland, the United Kingdom and Europe. Glasgow has excellent transport links and, with two international airports, is a one-hour flight from London and a short drive from the beauty of the Scottish Highlands.

Glasgow has a reputation as a cultural center: it is home to the Scottish Ballet, the Scottish Opera and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, as well as a variety of theaters and performing arts venues. The several art galleries and museums are largely free of charge, and the city has four multi-screen and two independent cinemas.

Accommodation

There are a number of excellent accommodation halls at the University of Strathclyde: each hall is just a short walk from the main university buildings, including the Students' Union, the Sports Centre, the International Study Centre, the Library and the campus shops and cafes.

Accommodation is self-catering and a combination of en-suite facilities and shared bathroom facilities. The rooms are fully fitted with comfortable furniture and excellent internet access. There is a common living room for students to socialize and cook together, including modern kitchen appliances and a TV set.

  • The institution was named University of the Year 2012 by Times Higher Education and again became the only university to earn the honor twice in 2019.
  • Strathclyde is a 5-star QS-rated university and was named the University of the Year by Times Higher Education in 2012 and 2019, as well as the Entrepreneurial University of the Year in 2013, and the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, the industry's highest national distinction.
