About University of Winchester

After the founding of the Winchester Diocesan Training School in 1840, the University of Winchester began to exist. This university was established to train instructors to teach the underprivileged. This institution became Winchester Training College in the year 1847. The Privy Council first acknowledged this institution under its current name in 2005, following considerable revisions, and in 2008 it granted this university authority to offer research degrees. Additionally, the renowned St. Alphege building was formally introduced to the university in 2013.

This university's campus is rich of attractive amenities and is divided into four quarters: the King Alfred Quarter, Medecroft Quarter, Bar End Quarter, and West Downs Quarter. The King Alfred Quarter, which is close to the centre of Winchester, is where much of the student activity is located. In this neighbourhood, there is a gourmet burger joint, a bookshop, a cafe, a dining room, and a pub with a patio. Additionally, it houses the Martial Rose Library, which is open twenty-four hours a day. The university's business school and the Link Gallery, on the other hand, are located in the West Downs Quarter. It features a tonne of modern amenities in its social learning spaces. The layout of this university's campus promotes sustainability.

The University of Winchester reported an excellent size of 422 academic personnel and 546 support staff in the 2017–18 academic year. There was a rise in these figures from the previous academic year, 2016–2017. In the same year, the number of students increased from 6,250 to 6,373. In this number, 6.7% of the students were foreign students from various nations throughout the world. At this university, 86 percent of students pursue a full-time education, and 67 percent of them are female. During the 2017–2018 academic year, this university got £0.6 million in grants and contracts for research.

Numerous well-known graduates who are currently enjoying prosperous professions were raised at the University of Winchester. To keep in close contact with these pioneers, the university established the Winton Club, an alumni group. Television journalist Martin Bashir, renowned BBC journalist Mike Bushell, comedian Nick Helm, well-known author Jill Marshall, politician Anne Snelgrove, and rugby player Bob Taylor are just a few of this university's well-known alumni. Stuart Brennan, a celebrated author and actor, attended this university as well.
