About Kent State University

Kent State University was founded in 1910 as a teacher-training college. The school was formed as part of the John Lowry Bill, which also established Bowling Green State University. Kent State University was originally known as Ohio State Normal College at Kent. It was renamed Kent State Normal School in 1911. On July 17, 1911, John E. McGilvrey was named the institution's first president. The institution's first full academic year began in September 1913, with a class of 144 students. In 1929, the college was renamed Kent State College. In 1935, it was designated as a university. The university is currently accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

Kent State University has eight regional campuses spread around the state of Ohio. The Kent Campus, which covers 950 acres and is the university's administrative headquarters, is the major campus of the eight-campus system. East Liverpool Campus, Ashtabula Campus, Geauga Campus, Stark Campus, Salem Campus, Tuscarawas Campus, and Trumbull Campus are the additional regional campuses. In addition to these eight Ohio campuses, the university has academic centres across the country, including Cleveland Urban Design and College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, NYC Studio in New York City, Regional Academic Centre in Twinsburg, School of Information in Columbus, and Kent State Hotel in Ohio.

Accounting, aeronautics, architecture, anthropology, arts, business, science, languages, design, education, engineering, environment, fashion, health, finance, management, journalism, mathematics, nursing, and psychology are among the university's nearly 300 graduate and undergraduate degree programmes. More than 38,000 students from 104 countries attend the university, which also has over 2,700 faculty members. Many study-abroad and student exchange programmes are made possible by the university's worldwide relationships. The university has a specialised Center for Corporate and Professional Development that focuses on fostering relationships with reputable employers while also improving students' professional skills and employability.
