About Saginaw Valley State University

Saginaw Valley State University was founded in 1963 as an open university in Michigan, United States. Prior to its current name, the university was known as Saginaw Valley State College, Saginaw Valley College, and Delta Senior University. It is the newest university among Michigan's 15 open universities. Later, the university introduced a four-year liberal arts curriculum. The institution launched the "Talent. Opportunity. Promise" campaign in 2013 with the goal of raising approximately $25 million. The institution has been granted accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission. In 1980, the university's master's degree programme was granted accreditation. The College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences is the oldest college of the university's five colleges.

Seven residence halls are located on the university's campus, including First-year suites A to E, First-year suites F and G, Living Centre North, Living Centre South, University Village, Pine Grove, and Living Centre Southwest. The university is also home to the Health and Human Services Building, which houses Michigan's largest aqua-thermal cooling/heating system.

The campus provides all the necessary facilities for students. The university's campus contains research laboratories. The university library contains 2,000,000 printed copies and approximately 4,000,000 online resources. Students have access to every e-book and physical book. Many restaurants and cafes are located close to the campuses. In addition, there are stationery stores, drugstores, and convenience stores located near the campus. Public transportation is readily accessible from campus. The institution provides both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. There are 7,431 students enrolled in undergraduate programmes and 758 in postgraduate programmes. Five colleges comprise the academic structure of the university: the College of Arts & Behavioural Sciences, College of Business & Management, College of Education, College of Health & Human Services, and College of Sciences, Engineering, & Technology.

The faculty members are highly knowledgeable and provide students with a wealth of practical experience. Students also have the opportunity to work alongside professionals in university research labs. Students are able to choose courses based on their areas of interest due to the breadth of subjects offered. Additionally, the university is involved in student exchange programmes. It is affiliated with Japan's Shikoku University. As a result of this programme, students are exposed to a variety of curriculums and internship opportunities.

Dej Loaf (rapper and singer), Bart Stupak (American politician), Robert Callaway (famous footballer), BS Yeddyurappa (former chief minister of Karnataka), Meera Chopra (South Indian actress), and Matthew Black are among the university's notable alumni (Former Canadian professional footballer).
