Santa Clara University (SCU) was founded in 1851 as Santa Clara College, a boys' preparatory school by John Nobili, S.J. It began delivering college courses in 1853 and by 1875 had enrolled over 275 students. The college was expanded in 1912 to include engineering and law schools, and it became the University of Santa Clara. In 1961, the university opened its doors to 75 female students, making it California's first co-educational Catholic university. In 1985, it was given its current name.
The university currently maintains WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) accreditation, and its varied programmes have been accepted by a number of prestigious organisations.
The Santa Clara University campus spans 106 acres in Santa Clara, California. It has excellent infrastructure and provides students with world-class facilities. Modern classrooms, well-equipped research laboratories, the Mission Santa Clara de Asis, a large library, a vast television studio, the Centre of Performing Arts, and the de Saisset Museum are among the facilities on the site. Students have a variety of accommodations to choose from, including 10 comfortable and spacious residence halls. It also has vast facilities for sports like as basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, tennis, volleyball, and softball, among others.
