About University of Houston

The University of Houston (abbreviated as UH) was founded in 1927 as Houston Junior College. It is a public research-focused higher education institution. In 1934, it became a university, and in 1963, it became a state institution. It became a part of the newly formed University of Houston System in 1977. The university has been upgraded to Tier One status by the Carnegie Foundation. The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, Oak Ridge Associated Universities, and Universities Research Association are all affiliated with it.

The main campus of the University of Houston is located in the southeast area of the city. The 667-acre campus has outstanding academic, administrative, recreational, and support facilities. With its art exhibits, restaurants and cafes, activity centres, athletic events, and live performances, the university maintains a vibrant environment. A high-tech recording studio is housed at the M.D. Anderson Library, which also hosts daily activities and technological training. Study and social areas, student clubs, a food court, IT services, campus stores, and a game room with a bowling alley may all be found in UH's Student Centre. TDECU Stadium, which seats 40,000 people, is home to the university's football team. Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park, with 3,500 seats, is home to the baseball club, while Fertitta Centre is home to the basketball team. Blaffer Art Museum, Lynn Eusan Park, Moores Opera Centre, and Cullen Performance Hall are among the campus's other attractions. There are a variety of housing options on campus, ranging from single suites to communal apartments.

UH offers 110 undergraduate minors and majors, as well as 120 postgraduate and 47 doctorate programmes, through 16 academic schools and colleges and an interdisciplinary Honor's College. Students can study architecture, design, arts, business, education, management, engineering, hotel management, law, social sciences, medical, mathematics, nursing, and pharmacy, among other subjects. Approximately 43,500 students and over 2,600 faculty members attend the university. University Professional Services (UCS) provides a variety of services to assist students in achieving their career goals, including career counselling, on-campus recruitment, and vocational evaluation.
