About Wichita State University

Fairmount College, a Congregational college, founded Wichita State University in 1895. The college was renamed the Municipal University of Wichita in 1926, making it the first municipal university west of the Mississippi River. The current name of the university was given to it in 1964. The Kansas Board of Regents has granted WSU affiliation. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is the institution's sports affiliation (NCAA).

Students receive knowledge and credentials to prepare for happy lives and careers on the university's beautiful 330-acre main campus, which is a supportive, constantly expanding learn-work-live-play environment. On a hilltop overlooking downtown Wichita, the main campus is located in North Fairmount. Administrative offices, academic buildings, recreational spaces, sporting facilities, and student homes are all located on the campus. The Rhatigan Student Center, located in the heart of campus, is the social core of university life. Aside from that, the university has two other satellite campuses in Maize and Derby where students can take programmes.

With more than 600,000 square feet of laboratory space, Wichita State University's National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) is the biggest university-based aviation research and development organisation in the United States. NIAR was founded in 1985 and specialises in Additive Manufacturing, Advanced Coatings, Aerodynamics, Aging Aircraft, Ballistic and Impact Dynamics, and CAD/CAM research, development, testing, certification, and training. It also connects to the National Center for Advanced Materials Performance and the FAA's Composites and Advanced Materials Center of Excellence.

WSU has three libraries, the most important of which being Ablah Library. These libraries provide access to information, technology, and other resources that are critical to WSU study and research. For research, learning, and teaching, the university libraries have over a million printed volumes, 70,000 journal subscriptions, and over 130 electronic database resources. On campus, the institution provides a number of housing halls where students can stay. Shocker Hall, with over 800 students, a coffee shop, and a 400-seat dining hall, is the largest resident hall on campus. Parking, free Wi-Fi, student support, postal, and health care services are all available on campus.
