Founded in 1884, Bangor University has a long tradition of academic excellence and a strong focus on the student experience. Around 10,000 students currently study at the University, with teaching staff based within fourteen Academic Schools.

Bangor University is ranked in the top 40 in the UK for research*, according to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. The REF recognised that more than three-quarters of Bangor’s research is either world-leading or internationally excellent, ahead of the average for UK universities.

The most recent National Student Survey (NSS 2018) results place Bangor amongst the UK’s top 10 universities for student satisfaction (excluding specialist institutions).


Bangor International Scholarships

Bangor University offers several scholarships for international students. Bursaries and scholarships worth over GBP 1 million are available for students. Also, all self-funding students will receive a scholarship between GBP 2,000 TO GBP 5,000 per year of study.

Bangor International Scholarships

  • All self-funding international applicants will receive a scholarship of £2,000 per year of study
  • All outstanding international applicants will automatically be considered for a scholarship of GBP 4,000 per year of study

Bangor GREAT Scholarships

  • Postgraduate taught programmes - Up to GBP 5,500 for students from India.

Peer guides

Peer guides help new students settle into university life and assists them with anything they require regarding university facilities.

The counselling service provides a wide range of resources to help students with any academic or non-academic issues. Workshops run throughout the year, and students can have confidential appointments with a professional counsellor.

Students with any physical or sensory impairment, including specific learning difficulties, enduring health conditions and mental health difficulties, can seek advice from the dedicated support staff. The team works hard to ensure that all students are included within both the academic and social communities.

Study Skills Centre

The university’s Study Skills Centre provides one-to-one appointments, workshops, facilitated writing spaces, and learning resources to help students develop academically.

The new Arts and Innovation Centre, Pontio, houses the Students’ Union as well as a cinema, theatre, lounges, cafes and food outlets. It also has great facilities for outdoor and indoor sports, including:
