Cardiff Metropolitan University was originally founded in 1865 as the Cardiff School of Art & Design, and in 2011 became an independent University of Wales.

Cardiff Metropolitan University has about 13,000 students coming from over 130 countries.

It has been ranked a number of times as the top new university in Wales in recent years. Cardiff Met was ranked the best post-1992 university in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. 80% of the research submitted by the University was rated as 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent.'

The University also enjoys close ties with industry and international universities such as the Samsung Art & Design Institute and the International College of Business and Technology in Sri Lanka and the London School of Commerce.

The university focuses on employment prospects and has a graduate employment rate of 95.6%, the highest in Wales.

Campus

Cardiff Metropolitan University has three major campuses: the Cyncoed Campus, the Llandaff Campus and the Plas Gwyn Suburban Campus, all within 5 kilometers of Cardiff City Centre.

The Llandaff Campus offers a variety of facilities, such as coffee shops, parking spaces and student clubs. 

Cyncoed Campus is a vibrant campus offering students excellent sports facilities.

Plas Gwyn Residential Campus is known for its comfortable and safe accommodation facilities.

Location Specialities

Cardiff is the capital city of Wales, approximately two hours west of London by rail. It has consistently been ranked as the most affordable city for students in terms of living costs. It's a tiny and easy space for students to navigate.

Cardiff is a safe, welcoming and multicultural community. Cardiff has 17 mosques, over 30 churches and a range of excellent food outlets, including Halal shops and foreign markets.

 Accommodation

Nearly 1,000 rooms are available in university-owned accommodation in the Cyncoed and Plas Gwyn campuses. Most of the rooms at the Cyncoed Campus are catered for, with self-catering and en-suite rooms available on campus. Accommodation near the Plas Gwyn campus is all en suite and self-catering, 3 km from the center of Llandaff.

English language Requirements:

UG and PG:

  • IELTS – 6.0 or equivalent, with no modules less than 5.5
  • PTE – 52 overall and a minimum of 51 in all components.

​MPhil / PhD:

  • IELTS – 6.5 overall with 6.5 in both Reading and Writing and a minimum of 6.0 in Listening and Speaking.
  • PTE – 61 overall and a minimum of 61 in all components.
