About  Kingston University

Kingston University London (KUL) is a public research university situated in the Royal Borough of Kingston on Thames, in South West London, England.

Founded in 1899, Kingston University London started operations with courses specializing in chemistry, electrical wiring, architecture, nursing, dressmaking and modeling of clay. In 1926, the Board of Education approved it as a technical college. In 1992, Kingston Polytechnic University was renamed as Kingston University.

Kingston is ranked 48th in the UK by The Guardian University Guide 2020 and the top 250 in the world for Business & Economics by Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2019. In 2017, the University was awarded the Guardian University Award for excellence in teaching.

Campus 

It has four campuses in Kingston and Roehampton.

Penrhyn Road  Campus.

This is the main university campus located in the city center of Kingston. Students centered here study: Arts and Social Sciences, Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences and Geography, Mathematics, Biosciences, Pharmacy, Chemistry and Medicinal Science, and Radiography.

Kingston Hill Campus

Kingston Hill is situated just outside the city centre, and can be easily reached by public transport.

Kingston Hill offers primary care for nursing (adults, infants, mental health and learning disabilities), education, business, music and social. The campus was known as Gipsy Hill before 1989.

Knights Park

Knights Park Campus is located near the town center and the hubs for public transportation.

Knights Park campus is home to several Kingston School of Art (KSA) students — students in architecture and design.

Roehampton Vale

Campus Roehampton Vale is situated only 3 miles from Kingston city centre, with easy access by public transport.

This campus is planned and fully engaged in engineering (aerospace, electrical, motor vehicle and mechanical engineering) studies.

On-site facilities include a wind tunnel, engineering labs, a flight simulator, a selection of vehicles, a Learjet 25 programme, plus aeronautical and automotive learning services.

All of these campuses are connected by the university’s free inter-site bus service.

Location Specialities 

Kingston University is situated in Kingston on Thames, a busy river town on the border between London and Surrey, just 25 minutes by train to central London, right next to the Thames River. The old town center is packed with shops, bars and clubs, with convenient access to airports in Gatwick and Heathrow. It is also within walking distance to the beautiful Richmond Royal Park, Hampton Court Palace and the Thames River.

Accommodation

  • Kingston provides a hosting deal for all new full-time undergraduate students.
  • Kingston University has seven residence halls, all near campuses at the University. University-owned residential halls consist of single rooms with a shared kitchen from 2-9 students, 70 per cent of which are en-suite.
  • Halls are located on or near the main campuses of the university. Students, staff and visitors have a free inter-site bus service, which runs between the residence halls and the four campuses.

How to Reach? Or Travel

Campuses Penrhyn Road and Knights Park are a 5-minute walk from Kingston on Thames town centre. Campus Kingston Hill is about 3 miles outside the town, near Richmond Park, and campus Roehampton Vale is about 4 miles outside the town.

Every campus is easy to access as there are two mainline train stations, a network of bus lines, and major motorways.

Kingston and Norbiton train stations are the major transport options into central London.

In addition, international airports such as Gatwick and Heathrow are easily accessible from the campus by both road and public transport.
