About University of Central Lancashire

University  of Central Lancashire is a public university founded in Preston, Lancashire, England in 1828 as Institution For The Diffusion Of Useful Knowledge . Over the years, UCLan underwent various names and structural changes and adopted its current name in 1992, after it was granted university status by the Privy Council.

 In terms of student numbers, Central Lancashire University is the 19th largest university in the UK.

The university has students, researchers and partnerships with 125 international institutions from over 100 countries

UCLan has 98 professors, over 600 research or knowledge transfer-active members of staff, and 763 research students. There are 246 Honorary Fellows of the university.

The main campus of Central Lancashire University (UCLan) is located right in the heart of Preston, with smaller campuses in Burnley, Cumbria and Cyprus.

Location Specialities 

Preston is Lancashire's administrative capital, has an estimated 130,000 population, excellent transport links, fantastic countryside, as well as a busy, compact town centre.

According to a 2017 report by Price Waterhouse Coopers and think tank, Demo, Preston is the best city in North West England to live and work in. In recent years it has also been rated the most affordable student town or city in the UK.

The Preston campus  is only a 10-minute walk from the city centre, with a variety of shops, bars and restaurants on the doorstep. Round the campus and the city there are designated cycle lanes.

Accommodation 

The UCLan guarantees accommodation for all first year students, and for all years of study students may stay at UCLan halls.

There is plenty of accommodation available for students in residential UCLan halls, located on the campus. 

Students live in flats which include a kitchen diner and a common area with sofas and TVs in some halls. Room options include cost-effective, standard, premium-standard or en-suite bedrooms, priced as appropriate. Adapted rooms for those students with disabilities are available in halls.
