About Plymouth University

Plymouth University is a public university based mainly in Plymouth, England. Founded as the School of Navigation in 1862, it is now the 15th largest university in the United Kingdom with over 19,000 students and 2500 staff.

The Research Excellence Framework ranks nearly two-thirds of the research undertaken by the University of Plymouth as either world-leading or internationally excellent.

Plymouth offers the fourth best contact time for all UK universities, with an average of 34 per cent of the time spent in lectures or seminars. Each year, over 4,500 students benefit from internships and work-based learning as well as research-led teaching.

The University of Plymouth is the top UK University for Marine and Ocean Engineering (Shanghai Global Academic Subjects Ranking 2019) and one of the world's first universities to receive a Social Enterprise Mark.

At Plymouth, Marine and Ocean Studies is a particularly popular subject field.

Campus

The spectacular campus of the University of Plymouth is located between the sea, Cornwall and Dartmoor in the heart of British Ocean City.

The main campus is home to the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business, the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Health and the Union of Students of the University of Plymouth.

North Plymouth Campus is situated four miles north of the main campus and adjacent to Derriford Hospital. Here, you will be taught dietary, occupational treatment, operating department, physiotherapy or podiatry.

Location Specialities

  • Plymouth is a vibrant city on the south west coast, nestled between the scenic Dartmoor and Cornwall, and home to the first National Marine Park in the United Kingdom. The pleasant town is compact and diverse in its amenities.
  •  It is a three-hour rail trip from London and also offers a ferry link to mainland Europe. It's a three-hour train journey from London and it also provides a ferry link to mainland Europe.
  • The city is also ranked 11th in the United Kingdom for the most cost-effective places to study.
  • The campus is situated in the city centre, directly opposite the main shopping center and next to the train station.

Halls accommodation is assured for first-year students making Plymouth their first preference Firm by the deadline. Plymouth is also operating an accredited accommodation website called Student pad, which helps students find private rented accommodation in the city.

In 2012, Plymouth was awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize for its worldwide recognition for marine and maritime education and science.

The University of Plymouth ranks among the top 40 modern universities in the world according to Times Higher Education and is also the best green university in the UK, according to the latest People & Planet Green League.
