Overview

The Diploma of Engineering is a pathway for international students to Bachelor of Engineering courses at Victoria University.

The course is designed to help you transfer into the second year of your chosen Bachelor of Engineering specialisation (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Architectural) or to apply for other bachelor level courses at VU or other universities.

You'll learn foundation skills in mathematics, physics and problem-solving. With these basic technical skills, graduates of this course can begin entry level work in engineering fields or go on to further studies in engineering.

Library & computer facilities

Our campus libraries offer career advice, academic resources and learning and IT support in relaxed lounge-like settings. You'll have access to photocopying, computing and printing facilities as well as electronic and print resources.

You'll have access to a rich collection of online resources at any time of the day or night, including databases, e-learning content for courses, student email, student software packages and social networking tools.

VU has one of the best campus-wide WiFi networks. We also have more than 4000 computers (PCs and Apple Mac) spread across our campuses. A central IT helpdesk is also available for support.

Careers in engineering

Graduates from the Diploma may find employment in areas where entry level positions require strong technical and problem solving skills. 

The course itself does not have any external professional accreditations. To gain professional accreditation from Engineers Australia students must complete an additional 3 years at the degree level.

Learning outcomes

  • On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Integrate fundamental knowledge in mathematics, physics, statistics and information technology within the engineering discipline;
  • Investigate and solve basic engineering problems utilising the latest technologies;
  • Adapt theoretical knowledge applicable to the discipline, for innovative and sustainable engineering practices;
  • Exhibit a range interpersonal and academic skills with a strong focus on development practice in an independent or collaborative environment;

Academic qualification equivalents:

  • Grade 12 with a minimum 60% in each of the following subjects: English Language Arts A30, English Language Arts B30, Chemistry 30 and Pre-Calculus 30

English language requirements (one of the below):

  • IELTS       : Overall score of 5.5 (no band less than 5.0)
  • TOEFL     : Overall score of 55. Section scores no less than: Listening: 9, Speaking: 16, Reading: 10, Writing: 18
  • PTE          : Overall score of 42-49 (no section score less than 40)
