Course information

The course reflects business thought and practice with an emphasis, where appropriate, on the application of theory to real business situations, challenges and issues.

Case studies will be used to give you an in-depth understanding of how the different parts of an organisation support one another. Previously, for example, students have considered the project management issues involved with festivals like Glastonbury, the ethical concerns in the supply chains of cut flowers and the challenges of managing mega-events, such as the Olympic Games.

Our aim is to provide you with a business degree qualification that equips you for careers in local, national or international markets, encouraging you to go beyond an understanding of management theories to also be able to apply them confidently to real life situations. We strive to create a study environment which will encourage you to build up your awareness of the dynamic business environment and how current events impact this with real life case studies and current events analysed in seminars and used to explore the challenges of putting theory into practice. In addition, our strong focus on providing opportunities for gaining work experience, supported by both our careers service and our Faculty Employability Tutors, helps you gain the skills, knowledge and networks that build the exceptional profile employers are attracted to.

Career prospects

The structure of the course, the experiences and support made available to you are all designed with a view to developing the skills, competencies and understanding necessary to contribute in the rapidly changing work environment.

Whether you require support and guidance in relation to long or short-term placement desires, or the needs and expectations of external employers, we have employability and careers tutors as well as your own academic personal tutor on hand to help you make these decisions and develop your own career plan.

The flexibility of the degree means that you can shape it as your career plans become clearer. You could go on to work in a diverse range of industries and jobs, from the civil service to large multinationals, working in anything from management and HR to advertising and marketing. We also have students who go on work in family businesses and are able to bring new insights and experiences.

Coventry University is committed to preparing you for your future career and giving you a competitive edge in the graduate job market. The University's Careers and Employability team provide a wide range of support services to help you plan and prepare for your career.
