About Business - Finance in Fanshawe College

This certified financial planner program is designed to give you the skills necessary to connect with your future clients and colleagues in the largest financial industry in Canada. Through our certified financial planner courses, you can work in the personal financial services sector, from customer service to wealth management and financial planning.

In this program you will learn to work with clients, evaluate their needs and offer advice on personal financial management, tax and retirement planning, insurance, investments, and estate planning, as well as customer relations and providing products to clients. Available in a traditional in class format, with September and January admissions or 100% online.

Qualified graduates will have completed all of the educational requirements leading to the CFP® (Certified Financial Planner®) designation awarded by the Financial Planning Standards Council. Students are also prepared to write the Canadian Securities Course® and Life Licensing Qualification Program examinations as prerequisites to securities and life insurance licensing. Students will also have completed the Mutual Funds Licensing course.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Business - Finance program are prepared to enter the financial services sector in many fields, including banking, credit management, wealth management, life insurance, investments and financial planning. Graduates are suited to a variety of entry-level positions or may advance into the following: sales representative, customer service representative, insurance advisor, investment advisor, financial planner or retirement planners.

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Class 12 passed students from a recognized board including CBSE, CISCE or a state board
  • All India Senior School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate/Standard 12 or Indian School Certificate (Year 12) as recognized qualifications
  • Final minimum average of 65.0% based on the highest six Grade 12 University (U) or University/College (M) courses

English language requirements (one of the below):

IELTS: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test with an overall score of 5.5  - 7.0 with no score less than 5.0 - 6.5 in reading and listening and a score of 7.0 in writing and speaking, with test results within the last two years
Please note, some Whitireia degree level programmes require a higher level of English language competence. 

TOEFL iBT :Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 60 - 100for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years

PTE: Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) with a minimum score of 40 - 65, with test results within the last two years
