About Dental Assisting (levels I And Ii) in Selkirk College

If you have an interest in helping others in an oral health care setting and becoming a valued member of a dental team in your community, this may be the profession for you. Students will acquire knowledge, skills and training in the professional behavior necessary to work as a Level II dental assistant, providing education and care in a variety of dental settings.

This one-year Ontario college certificate program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada. It provides access to academic studies, clinical experience and current radiography techniques. You will finish the program by completing a field placement experience within the community to further prepare you to work effectively as a Level I and II dental assistant as part of an oral health-care team.

You will also learn:

  • Business administration skills
  • Dental laboratory skills
  • Oral health education

Your academic and clinical studies will be based on the most current theory of dental assisting practice including:

  • Emphasizing professional and ethical principles
  • Working interdependently and collaboratively with health-care professionals
  • Knowledge of the various practice specialties available

Graduates are eligible to write the National Dental Assisting Board Exam and are also eligible for certification by the Ontario Dental Assistants Association.

Academic qualification equivalents

  • completion of all  India or state board HSC(XII)

English language requirements (one of the below):

  • Academic IELTS: 6.0, no band score less than 5.5
  • IBT TOEFL: 80, with minimum section scores of 20
  • PTE Academic: 53 minimum overall, no section below 49 L,W,S,R
