Electrical and electronics engineers perform a critical role in today’s modern world, advancing the technology which drives much of the activity in our everyday lives – from heat, light and power to telecommunications and transport.
This course aims to enable you to qualify as a Bachelor of Engineering or progress straight to the Master of Engineering award. You will have the opportunity to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for the generation, distribution, application and control of electrical energy used by industries as diverse as aerospace and automotive, chemical and construction. Our BEng (Hons) is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
You’ll have access to state-of-the-art facilities, the chance to apply for placement opportunities at companies which have previously included the National Grid, GlaxoSmithKline, Severn Trent Water and Mercedes Benz, as well as an annual programme of inspiring lectures on contemporary engineering and computing topics presented by the IET and British Computer Society (BCS).

At Coventry University, we believe that studying engineering should be so much more than just learning theory and passing examinations. Instead, our activity-led learning aims to enable you to develop your skills and knowledge by working on real-life problems and projects, many commissioned by our industry partners.
Designed to meet the Engineering Council UK-SPEC standard, the course covers the fundamental principles and develops the advanced skills to develop high quality solutions in electrical and electronic engineering, providing a solid foundation to start professional work in electronic design, control systems, communication systems and software engineering.
The course has a number of features designed to make you more attractive to employers and help you to obtain a good graduate-level job, which helped 90% of our BEng graduates find work or continue their studies within six months of graduation (DLHE 2014/15).
Not only is the technical content regularly reviewed to reflect what is currently important and in-demand in the electrical and electronic engineering industry, but we also ensure that the capabilities and skills that the sector regularly asks for are well addressed.
Electrical and electronic engineers are highly trained professionals, who are needed to specify and design electronic engineering solutions for future challenges, such as electric transportation, renewable energy generation, robot systems and medical diagnostics.
Your career options can range from traditional circuit design engineering, through to electronic manufacturing and integrating, installing and maintaining system solutions based on electronics for a multitude of different industries, including the manufacture of audio recording systems, mobile phones, embedded microprocessor systems, control and security applications and electronic controllers for vehicles.
The practical and professional focus of the course, with opportunities for a variety of work experience, demonstrates your capability to future employers. Course content is regularly reviewed by the university and other professional organisations, including the IET.
When you are ready to find permanent employment, you will also receive support from our award-winning Faculty careers service, EEC Futures, which won the ‘Best Placement Service in the UK’ award at the National Undergraduate Employability Awards in 2015 and 2016.
Coventry University is committed to preparing you for your future career and giving you a competitive edge in the graduate job market. The University’s Careers and Employability team provide a wide range of support services to help you plan and prepare for your career.
