About Financial Services Graduate Certificate in Algonquin College

This one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program prepares students for careers in the customer sales and service area of banking, insurance and independent financial planning industries.

Building on the students` previous business administration, banking, insurance, economics and finance knowledge and professional experience, this program introduces students to industry-specific accreditation courses, financial products and services, leadership in customer sales and service and financial advising. Through the development of a professional portfolio and optional field placements students gain experience with, and insight into, the financial services work environment.

This program is designed for individuals currently working or with previous experience in customer service and sales who are interested in career advancement, second career individuals who wish to enter the financial services industry, or graduates of diverse disciplines who wish to specialize in financial services.

Internationally-educated or trained professionals may also benefit from this program as an enhancement to their current international credentials and work experience and as preparation for financial service careers.

In collaboration with industry partners in banking, insurance or investment management, and with the support of program coordinator, students who meet established criteria have the opportunity to participate in an unpaid work placement. This optional placement at the end of Level 01 allows students to develop their competencies and to integrate and apply their knowledge related to financial services. Through job shadowing, students gain insight into workplace culture and career opportunities.
