About Business Psychology (b.a.) in CBS - Cologne Business School

Bachelor of Arts in Business Psychology

Why is it that a 700-euro smartphone sells better than a 300-euro smartphone? Is it possible to predict whether a product will be successful in a specific territory? How do you get employees on board when it comes to restructuring? The business world revolves around figures, but the driving force behind it is psychology. For this reason, companies need experts who are proficient in both disciplines: Business + Psychology. This study programme at Cologne Business School enables you to fully understand how the behaviour of people impacts the success of companies – and how you can use management skills to steer company decisions in the right direction. Graduates find employment, for example, in marketing, corporate consultancies or in human resources departments.

Business + Psychology = a degree

For a career later on in the management of an international corporation or a globally oriented, medium-sized company, profound business administration skills are essential. The Business Psychology study programme includes subjects such as accounting, mathematics, business law and reporting. The psychology courses place great emphasis on business and practical relevance – and cover a wide range of topics:

  • Consumer psychology
  • Marketing management
  • Media psychology
  • Corporate management
  • Social psychology
  • Human resources management

During your studies you work on current case studies from companies and have the opportunity to pursue your own interests with elective courses. If you decide to study at a private university of applied sciences, you can be sure that you will, in addition to the theoretical knowledge of business psychology, get to know many practical applications

Practical experience in your CBS business psychology studies

Where do you see yourself in ten years? At a company in Germany or in an international environment? Go ahead and set the course now. In addition, we offer you the option of studying for one semester at one of over 120 CBS partner universities. A second foreign language or an introduction to culture and management are also part of the curriculum.

Use soft skills to score points

A professional approach to colleagues, supervisors, clients and service providers is becoming increasingly important. Powerful charisma is paramount, and many techniques are learnable. In order to shine with your sovereignty in presentations or negotiations at work, you will work on your business skills while studying at CBS:

  • Rhetoric skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Motivation
  • Empathy
  • Problem-solving skills

A myriad of career opportunities

Marketing, corporate communication, market research and trend research, human resources management, corporate and general consulting, training and coaching, media research, advertising, work structuring, job design… wherever you interact with other people, companies or products, you as a business psychologist will be sought after. More and more companies are recognising the relevance of psychology in an economic context. However, this specialised field requires the corresponding additional qualifications in order to be able to act in a scientifically sound manner. In an integrated internship of eight weeks, you can find out which specialty or type of company you particularly enjoy and which attracts your greater interest. The Career Services department will be happy to advise you on choosing the right internship.
