In the Music B.A. course with a specialisation in pop music, you lay the foundation to achieve exactly this. Stylistic diversity, interdisciplinarity, the use of new media and an international approach are all important aspects of this course. The course is based on the Popular Music course at the former "Hochschule für Kunst, Design und Populäre Musik" (hKDM for short) and is continued by the Macromedia University with its top-class team of professors and lecturers.

Creating your own compositions as a pop musician

In the Music B.A. programme with a specialisation in pop music, the focus is on stylistic diversity, interdisciplinarity, new media and an international approach. You will perfect your skills on your main instrument and acquire in-depth knowledge of pedagogy and music production.

The aim of the first five semesters is to lay a solid foundation. During this time, the artistic and technical groundwork is established. In addition to the technical and theoretical basics, this includes the ability to express oneself authentically in a wide variety of musical styles. In semesters 6 and 7, students gain practical experience in the music business and work on sharpening their personal artistic profile. Artistic crossover projects and unique music research projects offer a special practical relevance during their studies.

Graduates of the Pop Music programme are well trained to work successfully as music artists or music teachers in the fields of stage performance, film and recording studios, music publishers and educational institutions. Our networks and cooperation partners, such as the Berklee College of Music, also make it possible to enter the international music business.

Content of the Music course with specialisation in Pop Music

During the seven semesters of your studies, you will be taught a large amount of theoretical and practical knowledge, from the basics to the finer points of pop music.
 
The content ranges from working on your main instrument or vocals to sight-reading, experimental classes, pedagogy and music production. The modules Intercultural Competences and Intercultural Communication are taught in English. The 6th semester focuses on communication competencies, a student initiative project and practical experience. Modules include:
