Psychology as a science of experience and behavior

The course of study in Psychology (Bachelor of Science) deals with conscious and unconscious psychological processes in humans. The behavior and experience of every individual is a central part of psychology. General laws are researched using scientific methods.

In the psychology course (B. Sc.) You will learn e.g. B. Describe the behavior of your fellow human beings, evaluate them scientifically and select and implement appropriate intervention measures.

After completing the third semester, students can choose between the areas of business psychology , health psychology and legal psychology .

Contents, goals and course of study

Psychology as a science of experience and behavior

Based on a well-founded basic training in psychological methodology (research methods, statistics and empirical-scientific work as well as psychological diagnostics) and in the psychological basic subjects (e.g. social psychology, personality psychology and biological psychology), the students acquire practice-oriented skills and applicable knowledge in the clinical subjects Psychology, occupational and organizational psychology as well as in an elective law psychology or educational psychology.

During the course, a 12-week mandatory internship is completed in a professional environment. Under the guidance of a psychologist, students experience opportunities for professional activities. Knowledge acquired during the course should be used here. According to the variety of psychological employment fields, the internship can be completed in any area from industry, public service, research, health care etc. at home and abroad. It is possible to extend this study phase to almost six months.

Objectives of the course:

The course aims to provide a broad basic qualification in the psychological area. Based on this, a consecutive master can be sought, or work can be carried out in the test diagnostic, clinical, pedagogical or legal psychological area accompanied by psychologists (Dipl./M. Sc.).

Career, prospects

Major in business psychology:

Business psychologists recognize and promote the individual skills and talents of an employee, optimize group processes and shape the world of work. Business psychologists work, for example, in the areas of personnel management, personnel selection, personnel development, market and consumer research, marketing, training management, research and teaching, business consulting, training and coaching.

Study focus on health psychology:

Health psychologists are dedicated to the prevention and rehabilitation of mental illness potentials, such as stress, depression or addiction. Health psychologists work, for example, in
companies, professional associations, consulting companies, health insurance companies, rehabilitation and psychosomatic clinics, foundations, and in educational institutions in the area of ​​research and teaching.

Major in legal psychology: legal psychologists deal with all psychological issues relating to the emergence, detection and punishment as well as prevention of delinquent behavior. Legal psychologists work, for example, in prisons or measures, in outpatient clinics and advice centers for offenders and victims, or in research institutions.
