Health-promoting tasks are increasingly becoming the focus of social work. The unequal distribution of education, health and participation creates new social needs and problems that lead to an increased need for psychosocial counseling and support. Psychosocial counseling and health promotion are cross-sectional tasks of professional social work.

Research and practice combined in an interdisciplinary manner

Scientific and theoretical foundation in the theories and fields of action of social work, social work and consulting sciences.

Practical preparation for different fields of work: The interdisciplinary focus of the degree program means that skills are conveyed to a high degree, leading to a professionally sound degree.

Research and practice are a large and important part of the master's program. Students gain knowledge of application-oriented social science research as well as the basics of reflection and application of psychosocial counseling and health promotion from a consulting, social work science and interdisciplinary point of view. In addition to the scientific basis, the students acquire professional skills in the areas of psychosocial counseling, health promotion and rehabilitation / participation. In cooperation with practitioners, they carry out research projects in addiction facilities, psychiatric clinics, counseling centers, facilities for helping criminals, etc. The results of the research work can lead to the final master thesis.
In addition, the students of the master's program are taught management skills so that they can take on management and managerial functions if necessary. Furthermore, they deal with important elements of organizational development in order to acquire appropriate leadership skills.  

Contents of the course

Theories of social work, social work, counseling, psychosocial counseling and health promotion; different counseling approaches, methods of psycho-social diagnostics are taught; In addition to a bio-psychosocial understanding of health, illness and impairment, post-structuralist, difference-theoretical, normativity-critical and body and body-related understandings of counseling form a focus of the course.
