Course summary

The course is unique in its mix of knowledge and skill in three distinct disciplines – business; science; and art.

There are two distinct areas within Horticulture.

  • Amenity: This includes landscape design along with constructing and maintaining parks, public areas, sports grounds, recreation facilities and roadsides. Interior landscaping is a specialism within amenity horticulture which is concerned with the design, installation, and maintenance of plantings in shopping centres, office buildings, hotels, residences, etc.
  • Commercial: This involves growing crops for sale. Crops include fruit and vegetables, nursery stock and bedding plants.

Students attend both Cork Institute of Technology and Colaiste Stiofain Naofa throughout the course.

In addition to the potential areas of employment listed above, graduates may also be employed as Market Gardeners; Landscape Designers; Landscape Construction Managers; Plant Propagators; Nursery/Floral Production Managers; Tree Management/Arborist; Turf Management; Environmental Planning; and may also do research.

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Class 12 passed students from a recognized board including CBSE, CISCE or a state board
  • All India Senior School Certificate or Higher Secondary Certificate/Standard 12 or Indian School Certificate (Year 12) as recognized qualifications

English language requirements (one of the below):

  • IELTS 6.5 overall (6.0 for Business programmes)
  • IELTS 5.5 in all four components (listening, reading, speaking and writing)
  • PTE 60 (63 for integrated programmes)
  • PTE 55 in all four components (listening, reading, speaking and writing)
