About Higher Certificate In Science Hearing Aid Audiology in Athlone Institute of Technology

Why take this course?

The primary aim of the two-year work-based part-time Level 6 Higher Certificate in Science (Hearing Aid Audiology) programme at AIT is to provide the requisite training to meet the statutory requirements of being able to practice as a Hearing Aid Audiologist, trained to deal with the assessment and rehabilitation associated with the provision of hearing aids for adults.

What opportunities might it lead to?

Hearing Aid Audiologists/Dispensers assess hearing and provide interventions namely in the form of hearing aids. In Ireland there is a growing demand for both Hearing Aid Audiologists/Dispensers and Audiologists. In recent years, the demand for Hearing Aid Audiologists/Dispensers in the private sector has vastly increased with companies and stores populating the High Street. Hearing Aid Audiologists/Audiologists working in the private sector in the Republic of Ireland can register with the Irish Society of Hearing Aids Audiologists (ISHAA). It is envisaged that learners from the Higher Certificate in Science (Hearing Aid Audiology) programme at AIT upon graduation can apply to become members of ISHAA. Those learners who successfully graduated from the first cohort with a Higher Certificate in Science (Hearing Aid Audiology) in October 2015 are all full members of ISHAA.
