About this course

The Masters of Science (MSc) in Computing is a 1 year full time (2 year part-time) taught course which allows the student to study the framework of computer science from a theoretical point of view and apply this knowledge to the development of industrial software in a research led dissertation. Focus here is on ensuring that the student has the appropriate mathematical foundations and programming to develop cutting edge skills for practical application.

Course Description

Communication skills and research are key skills embraced here as students enhance their knowledge through research led dissertation, student presentations and group work. Armed with an MSc in Computer Science from DkIT, the graduate can expect to directly obtain jobs in the tech industry or, alternatively, would be in a position to advance to PhD level. Find details of the course structure can be found below.

Starting in September 2019, the programme conveniently runs in both on a full-time and part-time basis. An attractive feature of the programme is that due to the modular nature of the programme, students will be able to register for individual modules and get single subject certification for each module completed.

Modules on the programme will cover trends in software development and current and emerging technologies. Students will develop advanced skills and knowledge in the areas of software development, project management, research capabilities and entrepreneurial skills.

Graduates of this programme will be capable of:

  • Designing, managing and developing complex quality-assured software systems;
  • Identifying computing problems that require further research and developing research strategies for the investigation of these problems;
  • Analysing and critically evaluating emerging technologies and trends in the computing industry from a business opportunity perspective;
  • Taking responsibility for the work of individuals and groups, and behave developed a high level of competence in initiating, leading and managing technology projects and processes.

Career Option

The MSc in Computing will provide you with the skills and knowledge to develop your interests in an IT career. Typical career paths include software engineering, software design, systems support engineer, software engineering researcher, and project management.

Advanced interaction design and evaluation, analysis and visualisation of data from medical sensor devices and pervasive systems, and advanced computational techniques are extensively covered opening a vast range of industrial and research based employment opportunities.
