OVERVIEW

The BA (Hons) Society, Politics & Policy course will help you understand modern society from social, political and policy dimensions. This degree will help you develop your understanding of a range of social science disciplines and subjects which are interrelated and complementary. 

The central disciplines that underpin this course are Political Science, Social Policy and Sociology.  

Social, political and policy developments, whether they are local, international or global, affect all aspects of our lives. This course provides you with the means to understand and critically engage with contemporary society and social change. 

The central philosophy of the course is that you will initially receive grounding in the core subject areas. At the same time, you will develop a critical understanding of the fluidity of disciplinary boundaries and approaches and this will help you comprehend the modern world that we live in. 

The course will equip you with the tools and knowledge necessary for understanding the contemporary social world. In addition, the broader skills, learning behaviours and confidence necessary to successfully enter the world of work or further postgraduate study.

COURSE DETAILS

The central philosophy of the course is that you will receive grounding in the core subject areas of Political Science, Social Policy and Sociology. At the same time you will develop an understanding of the ways in which the boundaries between them are fluid and the focus of each is often complementary to the others. 

The course focuses on the development of inter-disciplinary academic and research skills. A deep engagement with the social science research process will develop your theoretical and applied understanding of Political Science, Social Policy and Sociology. In addition, you will develop a range of key transferable skills that will enhance employability, including critical research skills, information literacies, data-handling and analysis and communication skills. Finally, throughout the course, you will be supported and encouraged to become a reflective, self-regulated, independent learner.
