Course Overview

The BA (Hons) Creative Writing degree will equip you with the skills needed to become a practicing writer.  You will learn how to write poems, stories, script and non-fiction using both traditional media and new technologies. As well as writing your own work, this course will give you the opportunity to sharpen and develop your creative skills through textual analysis, class discussions and peer-to-peer workshops. As you reflect upon your own writing, and that of others, you will learn to position your work in relation to social and cultural contexts.

At each level, there will be a subject specific strand; a field strand which will include employability focused opportunities such as collaborative projects, certification and work-related placements; and a theory strand which will bring expertise from across the Humanities. In practice, this means that you will develop your knowledge of subjects like poetry and scriptwriting; gain the skills necessary for employment in the creative industries; and be able to underpin your work with relevant contemporary theories.
