Course Overview

Postgraduate Diploma in Youth and Community Work (with JNC professional endorsement)
The Postgraduate Diploma in Youth and Community work is a professionally endorsed award and is particularly suitable for graduates who have found themselves either working in the field of youth and community work and who wish to gain a professional qualification or who have voluntary experience in youth and community work (minimum 200 hours) and are considering a professional career in the field.  The programme requires students to undertake two separate professionally supervised placements in the field of youth and community work. Students attend university on one evening a week where they undertake taught modules and tutorials. Students on this programme tend to develop into a highly supportive, friendly and analytical professional group. The course is endorsed by Education Training Standards (ETS Wales) for youth work. 

MA Education: Youth and Community Work (with JNC professional endorsement)
The MA in Youth and Community Work has a professionally endorsed post graduate Diploma in Youth and Community work embedded within it. As with the PG Dip in Youth and Community work it is particularly suitable for graduates who have found themselves either working in the field of youth and community work and who wish to gain a professional qualification or who have voluntary experience in youth and community work (minimum 200 hours) and are considering a professional career in the field. The course offers students the opportunity to gain a full academic MA as well as a professional qualification in youth and community work. 

​Course Content​​

PG Diploma in Youth and Community Work:

The course comprises four taught modules and four placement focused modules taught at the university campus, that run concurrently with two fieldwork placements. The taught modules consist of lectures and group work, with the placement modules providing more of an opportunity to develop critical reflection and analysis of context, with an acute focus on practice. Students will need to attend taught module sessions and tutorials on one evening a week. Modules run over a semester and are worth 15 credits at level 7.

PgD:
The Postgraduate Diploma in youth and community work is a programme leading to professional qualification in youth and community work through its endorsement for youth work by ETS Wales. The qualification significantly enhances employment opportunities in the field of youth and community work.

MA:
The programme is aimed at practitioners and managers in the generic and expanding field of youth and community development work. It aims to enable people to develop their professional understanding and skills through a supportive and challenging learning environment.
The programme will be of particular interest to experienced practitioners who manage aspects of youth or community development provision and who wish to develop their analytical and professional capabilities. It is one of the pathways on the Master's CPD framework.
