About Enterprise And Innovation Msc in Coventry University

Across the globe, start-up businesses, spin-outs and ‘intrapreneurs’ are becoming increasingly popular. As a result, governments and corporate policymakers are now investing heavily in enterprise and innovation.

This master’s degree will aim to develop your ability to pitch your creativity and originality to solve organisational challenges and deliver growth around the world.

The course aims to increase your confidence in generating, implementing and managing new ideas, even in changing or uncertain contexts. Having such an entrepreneurial mind-set could serve you well throughout your career, even if you never actually become an entrepreneur. You’ll have the chance to learn how to spot opportunities before your competitors or colleagues do, which could help you to negotiate uncertainty and solve problems in unconventional ways.

Extended Professional Practice

This MSc course is now available with Extended Professional Practice. This 18-month option is aimed at students who are looking to develop a deeper understanding of business in a very practical way. You will undertake two Professional Practice modules which will take the form of either an internship with a host organisation, or a campus-based professional experience. Students are expected to spend twenty-two weeks at one (or more) work setting(s) and will have the opportunity to apply theory to practice. After completing the extended professional practice students are required to produce a substantial problem-based piece of individual written work.

Course information

This master’s degree course provides an insight into a different type of enterprise. It offers you the opportunity to learn creative theory and practical skills that you might need to succeed in modern business.

Enterprise and innovation are very much about a mind-set and an approach, so you’ll have the chance to spend a lot of time honing these skills with your fellow students who could come from all over the world. You might explore potential areas of venture creation within an organisation, as well as freelance and management consultancy and ‘intrapreneurship’ within large corporations and public-sector organisations.

The course examines the various stakeholders in innovation, enterprise and entrepreneurship, and different types and sources of funding. You’ll have the chance to explore a variety of start-up models and analyse the opportunities that they present. You could learn to apply a management consultant’s approach to real business problems, and consider how established firms might add new innovations to their offering.

This full-time master’s degree course is offered over three terms as standard, or over five terms if you choose to do the Extended Professional Practice.

Career prospects

When you graduate, you should have the skills and attitudes you need to develop your own business or to build a career as an innovative leader within an organisation.

On successfully completing this course, you should have a wide range of skills which are currently very much sought-after by investors, lenders and employers. A huge range of opportunities could be open to you when you graduate, whether you choose to be an entrepreneur or to follow an intrapreneur pathway (as an innovator within an existing organisation).

You should have a strong grasp of the roles which creativity and innovation can play in the workplace, and how they can contribute to enhanced business success. You should know how to balance curiosity and risk-taking with responsible risk management and financial control.

Your self-sufficiency and your resilience should have been strengthened, and you should develop skills to know how to use networking to build strong connections for potential partnerships. You should be able to recognise genuine opportunities, negotiate uncertainty, and be capable of delivering strategies for leadership in the context of self-employment, consultancy or business management.
