About Meng Chemical Engineering And Diploma In Industrial Training in Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh

The 2019 NSS results placed chemical engineering at Heriot-Watt as 1st in Scotland, based on the average response across all questions submitted by students.

Our MEng Chemical Engineering and Diploma in Industrial Training provides students with both the theory and practical application expected by industry. We have strong links with professional communities, allowing us to enhance the career prospects of our graduates.

Programme structure

Our course gives you a sound understanding of both the chemical and process engineering fundamentals that you need to become a professional chartered engineer. In addition to a grounding in science, maths and engineering, our students acquire practical abilities that are highly sought after by industry and complete a year working in industry.

The MEng with DIT course is a 6 year degree which shares the same first three years with the MEng programme. The Diploma in Industrial Training allows students the chance to work in the chemical and process industry, usually in 4th year. In 5th & 6th years students undertake a commercial tender exercise, working in multi-disciplinary groups to take on the role of a design house pitching for business to our industrial advisory board.

Students need to apply and be accepted for a place in industry in order to qualify for the DIT award. Academic tutors will provide help and guidance on finding a placement.

 

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Students who have successfully completed Standard XII examinations will be considered for entry onto our undergraduate degrees across the full disciplinary spectrum.
