About Mental Health Studies Msc in Kings College London

New scholarships for 2020 entry.

Motivated to take your next step towards clinical training, prepare for a PhD, or expand your expertise? We’ve designed this course to help you explore mental health and boost your research skills.

Many students join us after their undergraduate degree. But it’s also a great opportunity for people with experience to move forward in their career.

Key benefits

  • Choose a voluntary clinical placement to get experience working at South London & Maudsley Hospital one day a week
  • Learn from leading experts and join small group tutorials led by PhD students
  • Pick from eight optional modules. These cover everything from disaster response to psychological therapies
  • Join one of our existing reseach project teams or develop your own research ideas

Teaching

We have a team of academics and clinicians who lead the different modules on this course. Their diverse expertise gives you an insight into the wide spectrum of challenges in the field.

Although this isn’t a clinical course, we make learning relevant to practice. Our teaching equips you for further training, explains how research applies to practice, and keeps you up to speed with the latest research.

Description

From disorders and treatments, to diagnosis and assessments, we’ll help you delve into all aspects of mental health. At the same time, you’ll learn about approaches to research, systematic reviews and big data.

We’ve designed this course with a range of modules that allow you to study a variety of topics of particular interest to you.

You’ll apply what you’ve learnt in your own research. You’ll join an existing research team to help them with an ongoing project that’s tackling a specific challenge in the field.

As a student at King’s, we give you the chance to apply for a diverse range of placements within the NHS. If you’re successful at an interview, you’ll spend one day a week gaining invaluable clinical experience.

Career prospects

After this MSc, you’ll have the skills you need to start a career in a variety of mental health areas. You’ll also be ready to apply for clinical training, research assistant positions, or PhD study.

With a grounding in issues and debates in the field, you’ll be a great fit for roles outside the NHS and academia too. For example, you might work as a consultant helping government bodies respond to disasters.

If you joined us with experience in the field, you’ll have boosted your career prospects. You’ll also feel confident carrying out research alongside clinical practice.
