About Biomedical Engineering Beng in Middlesex University

Our multi-disciplinary biomedical engineering course mixes engineering with medicine. This provides you with a solid understanding of the technological developments taking place in medicine, engineering, physics, maths and computer science.

You’ll build on your previous experience in applied mathematics, physics, or other sciences . During your course you will enhance your engineering knowledge and gain specialist skills which will help you to design and improve existing and emergent systems, devices and treatments.

We’ve got fully equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories for medical device design and human performance measurement. You’ll also have access to the facilities in our human-computer interaction research department. You’ll gain valuable professional experience – and receive a Diploma of Industrial Studies – by taking a work placement with the NHS or one of our industrial partners between years two and three.

What will you study on the BEng/MEng Biomedical Engineering?

This course will cover the engineering design principles and engineering fundamentals such as mechanics and electronics and the mathematics that support them. You will learn about anatomy and physiology, and learn to interpret, analyse and critically evaluate experimental results to improve technology , as well as the instrumentation to diagnose and treat disease and disability.

By choosing this degree, you have the potential to make life-changing advancements in the field, working on a diverse range of projects such as artificial organs, automated patient monitoring, blood chemistry sensors, advanced therapeutic and surgical devices. You will also cover the application of expert systems and artificial intelligence, clinical decision making, design of optimal clinical laboratories, medical imaging systems, computer modelling of physiological systems, biomaterials design, and biomechanics for injury and wound healing, among many others.

Middlesex University International Student Admissions

Visa Process for International Students

  • All international applicants need to have the Tier 4 visa clearance for six months.
  • Applicant must be at least 16 years old in order to apply for a Tier 4 visa.
  • Financial and documentation requirements need to be fulfilled by the applicant.
  • Passports, travel documentation and a tuberculosis test result are required when applying for Tier 4 visa.
  • A minimum of 40 points are required for Tier 4.
  • Out of these 40 points, 30 points are for a valid CAS from a Tier 4 sponsor, which will be Middlesex University.
  • 10 points are for financial means for college tuition, living costs and application fee.
  • A CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) is sent to the applicant when he/she is admitted at the university.
  • This CAS contains a reference number that must be stated on the visa application form.
  • The validity of the visa depends upon the duration of the course taken by the applicant.
