About Electronics And Computer Engineering Beng Honours in Newcastle University

This degree focuses on the development of systems that involve electronic hardware and software working together, such as the microcomputers embedded in many modern products.

It is tailored to the needs of information engineers and there is demand for graduates in this area.

In Stages 1 and 2 you study core elements from our common syllabus, developing your expertise in electrical machines and electronic communications systems.

You also study computer engineering skills, such as the processing of signals.

In Stage 3 you take specialist topics, such as:

  • real-time programming
  • website creation and management

This degree focuses on developing electronic systems that involve hardware and software working together. You will develop skills in Java and GUI programming.

This is complemented by a large individual design project such as developing an ultrasonic robot navigation system, multibiometric systems for face recognition and 3D reconstruction through stereo vision.

Both our BEng and MEng degrees provide a pathway to becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng). This is one of the most recognised international engineering qualifications.

Our Master of Engineering (MEng) degrees are a direct route to becoming chartered. You don’t need to study any more qualifications after your degree to work towards chartered status.

Our three-year BEng degrees can also lead to Chartered Engineer status. This can be achieved through professional development or a Master’s degree.

Typically we recognise a 75% average in Standard XII as comparable to ABB at A level.

This can be awarded by:

  • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
  • Council for the Indian School Certificate (CISCE)
  • National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)
  • Various state boards
  • Autonomous schools

Actual grades required will vary depending on exam board.
