On an advanced programme of study you’ll explore, refine and develop your artistic practice. You can take part in numerous activities and explore your practical skills – from painting, sculpture, digital making and printmaking to drawing, metalwork, writing and curating.

Live projects

Sheffield has a dynamic and vibrant creative community. We work collaboratively with artists and curators, as well as researchers and students in other areas. You’ll also have access to a network of public galleries, art organisations and artist-run spaces.

Throughout the course there are many opportunities to take part in live projects, including exhibitions, publishing and public events. You can also exhibit your work in a local professional art gallery, which contributes towards your final degree show.

Fine art students work and exhibit in the heart of Sheffield's Cultural Industries Quarter. Our course has links with the Sheffield Contemporary Arts Forum, the Yorkshire Artspace Society and the Showroom Cinema, as well as the Site Gallery and studio groups such as S1 Artspace and Bloc.

Networking opportunities

We regularly invite external practitioners to contribute to workshops and tutorials. Throughout the course you’ll be introduced to professional practitioners as part of the weekly lecture programme. We invite well-known specialists – including high-profile international artists, curators, arts managers and art writers.

The course also works closely with Sheffield's arts community, encouraging you to build a career by taking part in regular exhibitions, private views, public debates & events, internships and formal & informal dialogues.

Postgraduate taught programmes (masters)

The following qualifications will be considered for entry on to postgraduate taught programmes,

  • three year Bachelor Degree with a minimum score of between 55 to 60 per cent or above (from a reputable university)
  • four year Bachelor Degree with a minimum score of 55 per cent or above (from a reputable university)
  • Successful completion of a recognised pre-masters course
