Develop the skills required to be a quantity surveyor for private or public clients or construction organisations. The course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB and we aim to produce graduates who meet the academic, professional and ethical standards required by the professional bodies.

Field trips

The course includes an international field trip, placing you in a challenging and unfamiliar environment where you complete a development project. On this task, you work with students from across related subjects to increase understanding of the other roles in the profession that interact on a day-to-day basis and how the role of a quantity surveyor fits in with these roles. It also develops the skills and knowledge that are essential to becoming an effective professional practitioner. These have previously taken place in Shanghai and Toronto, with assistance from international surveying firms.

Future careers

Practical quantity surveying knowledge and skills improve your career prospects in the UK and global public and commercial sectors. Opportunities range from fund manager to specialist subcontractor. Our graduates have an outstanding employment record. Recent graduates have joining leading firms such as Rider Levett Bucknall, Gleeds, Sheffield City Council and many more

Employability is embedded throughout the course, and modules have been designed to reflect the demands of both the professional body and relevant industry employers. This is supported by the University Employment and Careers Service, departmental employment advisors and departmental initiatives, such as the department careers day.
