About Msc Leadership In Healthcare in University of Dundee

This course has been designed to offer flexible, inclusive and contemporary content which is relevant to students across local, national and international healthcare settings. It will support you both personally and professionally in developing the leadership skills required to take on a range of leadership roles and to lead changes in practice.

The main focus of the course is on developing your knowledge and understanding of leadership within the context of healthcare. It also takes account of leadership theory and evidence from other fields and disciplines. In applying this knowledge, you will be encouraged to reflect on and develop your own personal leadership skills and values. Change is an integral component of leadership, so developing your understanding of the drivers for change and how to lead and implement change are also core components of the course.

There are two intakes per year (September and January), and the course is delivered on a modular basis over three and a half years. You will undertake a core research module to develop your critical analysis of healthcare research, a core leadership and change module, and a core module on exploring professional practice. You will then undertake a final option module of your choice. After completing these four modules you will progress to your dissertation and you will be allocated a supervisor.

The course is delivered by a team with an international reputation for designing and delivering high quality, flexible, postgraduate courses and who have all held leadership roles in practice settings, as well as in educational contexts. The modules are delivered online and at a distance, but some masterclasses and assessment support sessions will be delivered locally and will be available for you to attend. For those who cannot attend, the masterclasses will be recorded and support sessions delivered by web conference.

Careers

Our MSc portfolio is designed to support students in achieving their career aspirations beyond their initial roles. While almost all of our students are already in professional roles, students who have completed our masters programmes in the past have gone on into management and other promoted posts as well as specialist roles such as hospital at night and clinical governance leads.

The core requirements of research and professional modules within the programmes ensure that graduates are equipped with a range of key transferable skills that promote excellence, innovation and leadership in practice. Our aim is to help students become the leaders and experts of the future in health and social care, to be adaptable, confident and challenging in their approach, and to become the change agents in their professions.
