About Msc Medical Art in University of Dundee

Medical art encompasses a wide range of applications from patient communication and information to medical teaching and training. It is also used by the pharmaceutical industry to aid in explanation of their products and by television companies in the production of documentaries.

This taught Masters course employs highly specialised tutors from scientific backgrounds alongside experienced medical art supervisors.

Created in response to the need for transition from a variety of undergraduate degrees to specialist practice within the contemporary medical art field. Our course will provide expertise for those intending to work at the leading edge of the medical art profession and is a supportive environment to nurture innovative and creative ideas. Course lecturers work closely with the NHS, the Institution of Medical Illustrators and the Medical Artists’ Association.

This course will benefit artists with specific interests in the medical and forensic applications of visual art.

It will also provide a postgraduate qualification for police artists, and medical artists working in the NHS, who are seeking validation or further specialisation of existing skills to conform with medico-legal procedures and for registration with relevant professional bodies.

In medical art potential careers exist in the NHS as well as industry. Medical art and visualisation is a rapidly changing and broad discipline. Possible careers include:

Internships

Short term internships may be offered to selected students following graduation. Previous placements have included, the Royal College of Surgeons in London, the Technology and Innovative Learning Team at Ninewells Hospital and Limbs and Things in Bristol.

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Bachelor’s degree with 55% or above considered from University of Delhi, University of Mumbai, University of Calcutta, IITs and IIMs (considered equivalent to a UK 2.1 degree)

    Bachelor’s degree with 60% or above required from other institutions (considered equivalent to a UK 2.1 degree)

    A Bachelor’s degree with 50% or above may be considered comparable to a UK 2.2 degree.

English language requirements (one of the below):

  • IELTS: The requirement for most undergraduate and postgraduate degrees is IELTS 6.5 overall with a 6.0 in writing and 6.0/5.5 minimum in the other three components.
  • TOEFL (iBT): 88 overall, including at least 21 in Listening, 20 in Reading, 20 in Speaking, 23 in Writing.
  • PTE: 62 overall, including at least 56 in all four skills
