About Aeronautical Engineering Beng/meng in University of Glasgow

Aeronautical engineering is about how aircraft are designed, constructed and powered, how they are used and how they are controlled for safe operation.

You’ll take part in practical laboratories, including running a jet engine test, and a flight-testing course in a Jetstream aircraft during year 5 of the MEng.

  • Aeronautical group design projects are undertaken in collaboration with BAe Systems on a real aircraft project
  • Students have access to State-of-the-Art experimental facilities which are part of the UK National Wind Tunnel Facility
  • Final year students will undertake a six month placement in industry, an overseas university or within University of Glasgow research facilities
  • The programme is accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society, and is in the process of reaccreditation with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers
  • You’ll take part in practical laboratories, including running a jet engine test, and a flight-testing course in a Jetstream aircraft during year 5 of the MEng
  • We have several Engineering student societies, which include JetX, Design-Build-Fly and University of Glasgow Racing (UGR)

SQA Higher Entry Requirements (by end of S6)

  • Additional requirements: Higher Mathematics and English at Grade A or B.

  • Additional requirements: Higher Mathematics and English at Grade A or B. Successful completion of Top-Up or one of our Summer Schools.

A-level Standard Entry Requirements

  • AAA – ABB
  • Additional requirements: A-level Mathematics and GCSE English Grade B/5.

IB Standard Entry Requirements

  • 38 (6,6,6 HL) – 32 (6,5,5 HL)
  • Additional requirements: HL Mathematics (Analysis & Approaches) and SL English 5.

For applicants whose first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module (not General Training)

  • 6.5 with no sub-test under 6.0.
  • Tests must have been taken within 4 years 5 months of start date. Combined scores from two tests taken within 6 months of each other can be considered.
  • TOEFL (ib, my best or athome)

  • 90 with minimum R 20, L 19, S 19, W 23.

  • PTE (Academic)

  • 60 with minimum 59 in all sub-tests.
  • Tests must have been taken within 4 years 5 months of start date. Combined scores from two tests taken within 6 months of each other can be considered.
