About Human Resource Management in University of Roehampton

Our Human Resource Management (HRM) degree course will give you an excellent basis for a career in HR in a range of organisations. You’ll leave as a ‘business ready’ graduate, a confident, independent thinker, with the skills to adapt rapidly to change.

As a human resources specialist, you will learn how businesses can get the most out of their employees, and develop the skills for successful people management.

You will learn about key concepts such as managing people, operations, marketing and finance; and learn what businesses need to do to operate effectively and ethically in a culturally diverse environment.

In readiness for your future career, you will acquire key attributes employers value, such as commercial acumen, self-reflection and emotional intelligence, and gain skills in research and project management.

You will finish the course confident in your personal values, with the knowledge and experience to solve business problems ethically and an ongoing passion for personal and professional development.

This degree includes an option for a semester-long work placement during year two, to give you first-hand experience to develop your career and apply what you’ve learned.

The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), so as a graduate, you will gain CIPD Associate Membership.

  • Develop your experience in managing real-life issues in the workplace by completing a work placement or applied consultancy project in year two.
  • You can also apply for a one-year, paid work placement between years two and three.
  • Apply contemporary research to the latest HR issues, such as talent management and embracing diversity.
  • Graduate ‘business ready’, with the ability to think critically and innovate, while adapting to volatile, ambiguous or complex situations.
  • As a graduate, you'll be eligible for Associate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
  • During your first year, classes start no earlier than 10am, and teaching takes place on the same two days each week*. You'll have ample time to travel to campus, and the flexibility to fit your study around other commitments.

Our academic staff have extensive experience of organisations and will support you to connect your learning to the realities of business and management.

Business Readiness and Extended Academic Induction modules will build your future employability throughout your degree, by developing your academic, leadership and management skills.

Your Personal Tutor will support you to map your career development and provide guidance on your learning.

You will gain access to Roehampton Business School's many employability events, including workshops and employer exhibitions. Alongside this, we provide a career mentoring scheme, the student-led University of Roehampton Business Society (URBS) and an online careers portal.

Higher Secondary academic qualifications (certificate and transcript), and a valid English language qualification, a personal statement and two references. Please note that English Language tests results are usually only accepted if they have been achieved in the last two years.
