About Quantity Surveying Accelerated in University of Salford

Quantity surveyors manage the financial aspects of the construction process. Working on behalf of contractors, agencies and clients, they apply cost engineering to ensure developments are physically built on time to budget. If you’re looking for a career where you can influence developments, our triple-accredited BSc Quantity Surveying course can open up exciting career prospects both in the UK and overseas

Salford is consistently ranked in the World Top 100 universities (QS 2018) for Architecture and Built Environment study. Providing a pathway to professional status, our Quantity Surveying course will advance your financial, technical and managerial construction related knowledge. Accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES), you’ll be educated to the highest professional standards.

With a focus on your future employability, you’ll develop a broad spectrum of finance, management, and team working skills. You’ll build advanced measurement and quantification techniques with detailed knowledge of estimating and cost management methods. You’ll learn about the legal and regulatory framework and the economic environment. You’ll differentiate the processes, tools and techniques used to evaluate risk and value management, and develop comprehensive recognition of sustainable design.

This accelerated pathway includes the same content as our standard undergraduate degree but is taught over three trimesters rather than two semesters. This more intense mode of study means that you can complete your degree in a shorter period of time, so you can progress more quickly into work or further study.

You will:

  • Study the role of the contemporary quantity surveyor, and gain a critical awareness of the construction lifecycle
  • Examine construction law and the commercial practices that affect the use, management and development of land
  • Develop an understanding of the interactions between a building and its internal and external environments
  • Learn how effective planning and resource management can impact on a project and its supply chain
  • Explore how risk and value management techniques can optimise whole life cost solutions
  • Benefit from field visits and real-world projects with our established built environment industry partnerships
