The BSc Computer Games Technology is designed in collaboration with the UK's top computer games companies.  

This top-up course is designed for suitably qualified international students – holds PlayStation® First status – and offers the opportunity of a year's paid sandwich placement in the UK or abroad, where you can gain invaluable experience in the computer games sector.

Many UWS graduates have secured positions as games developers or programmers with the sector’s biggest companies. Graduates also make use of their graphics and C++ skills outside of gaming; recently in companies such as Morgan Stanley, Codeplay and IESVE.

This course is accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) as fully meeting the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered IT Professional and, on behalf of the Engineering Council, as fully meeting the academic requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partially meeting the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Part-time students must complete their studies within 6 years to gain BCS recognition. This course is also accredited by Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries in the UK.

PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

You can undertake a year’s paid sandwich placement in the UK or abroad to gain work experience in the computer games sector. Placements can be taken between years 2 and 3, or years 3 and 4.

In recent years, students have undertaken placements with Morgan Stanley, IES and Codeplay.

COURSE DETAILS

The multi-billion dollar games industry requires a highly-skilled workforce and this course has been awarded PlayStation®First status, an Academic Partnership Programme run by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and World Wide Studios Europe (SIE WWS).

PlayStation®First is awarded to select partners providing best practices in PlayStation® production values, research applications and game development skills. Membership of the Sony PlayStation® developer programme also gives you access to PlayStation® professional development kit hardware and software (SDK).

Guest speakers from industry also form part of the programme to further deepen your understanding of the subject. Mo McRoberts from the BBC, Steve Adamson from Morgan Stanley and Nicole Anderson from Smudge Digital have all recently delivered lectures.

Jobs

Many UWS graduates secure positions as games developers/programmers with the sector's biggest companies including Sony, Rockstar North, Electronic Arts and Codemasters. Others have relocated to the gaming market hotspots of Japan, the US and Canada.
