About Bmid (hons) Midwifery in University of York

Our BMid (Hons) philosophy seeks to educate midwifery graduates who will positively impact women, families and communities throughout their professional lives.

The BMid (Hons) course at York will equip you to become a skilled, knowledgeable and compassionate midwife, able to provide excellent care for women, newborn infants and families. The course has learning through research and enquiry at its centre, and is focused on contemporary midwifery and maternity care. 

The course provides an equal balance of theory and practice learning which will enable you to develop comprehensive interpersonal skills to build and sustain relationships, working in partnership with women and families. You will also work effectively within interdisciplinary and multi agency care teams.

Through varied and stimulating academic and practice learning modules you will gain the knowledge, skills and experience to provide safe, universal and advanced midwifery care.

We keep our cohorts small, meaning you’ll have all the peer and academic support you need to progress through your course.

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Typical offers for Standard XII (awarded by a recognised Board of Higher Secondary Education) are based on an average score ranging between 75% to 85%.

  • An average score of 85% is comparable to A*AA/AAA
  • An average score of 80% is comparable to AAB/ABB
  • An average score of 75% is comparable to BBB
  • For CBSE and CISCE boards we will accept the overall average score from the best four subjects. For other State Boards, we will accept the overall score from the best five subjects. Good A level and International Baccalaureate grades are also accepted. Actual grades required will vary by course.

    Other post-school qualifications may also be considered for entry to York on a case by case basis.

English language requirements

  • IELTS :6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
  • TOEFL:87 overall, with a minimum of 21 in each component.
  • PTE :61, with a minimum of 55 in each component.
